GES/ACHS TOOL TIME

High School students from Mr. Furnish’s industral arts class have combined efforts with the blue pod students for an exciting project.  Students plan to grow plants in outdoor raised garden beds on GES school grounds this spring.  Step 1 took place in February as high school students mentored students in grades 3 and 4 while building raised planter beds.

VALENTINE DECORATING CONTEST

Some students and 6th grade teachers participated in a friendly competition.  Winners were: 1st Place-Candy Vending Machine by Carissa Jones (6S)  2nd Place-Stuffed animal game machine by Kailyn Honn  3rd Place-Barn by Austin Teter  Staff Winners: 1st Place-Camper by Mrs. Graham and 2nd Place-Rubic Cube by Mrs. Louk

ANDERSON COUNTY SPELLING BEE 2018

Danica and Sophia won the GES Spelling Bee and represented the bullpups at the county bee.  Sophia won the AC Bee and will be participating in the regional bee in Topeka in March.  CONGRATULATIONS!

BODY VENTURE

GES kindergarten through grade 5 students enjoyed Body Venture, a 45-50 foot walk through exhibit sponsored by the Kansas Department of Education, Child Nutrition and Wellness Division. This exhibit represents the human body and promotes learning the skills for making choices for a healthy lifestyle.  Thanks to Tabitha Clark, our school nurse, and our district wellness committee for taking on this big project and making this unique educational program possible for our students.

D.A.R.E. GRADUATION

GES grade 5 students recently completed their D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) course taught by Deputy Max Skelton.   Ruth Burkdoll and Matthew Beckmon were recognized for their essays, which they read to those in attendance.

#USD 365 QUIZ BOWL CHAMPS

The USD #365 Elementary Quiz Bowl was held at GES on Tuesday, November 21.  Although all teams competed well, Mrs. Smart’s Quiz Team won the event.  They came out victorious against a good Westphalia team on a tie breaker.

Mrs. Kim Barnes has joined our GES office staff.  It is her smiling face you see when you walk in the office and the pleasant voice that will usually answer the phone!  She is enjoying getting to know our students and their families.
